Interview with Giuseppe Lo Schiavo
Can you feel the bounce of the diving board and smell the sweet salty air? Giuseppe Lo Schiavo’s windowscapes are all about blending art with tech.
In this interview, we dive into Giuseppe’s unique process and the ideas behind his striking body of work. Giuseppe reflects on the escapism of art, how the pandemic inspired his series of windowscapes, and the endless allure of the ocean in his artistic imagination.
Based between Milan and London, Giuseppe was an early pioneer of digital art and the concept of ‘synthetic photography’ – through which he combines modern technology with the timeless beauty of ancient history and nature.
Giuseppe’s fascination with memory and perception led him to a small dose of rosy retrospection. Where each window becomes a nostalgic lens into an idyllic past—transforming ordinary scenes into dreamlike escapes that feel like glimpses of a world more beautiful and serene than we remember.
“Sometimes our brain perceives artificiality in a more amplified way. This emotional exaggeration, is central to how we remember moments in life—better, more vibrant than they actually were.”
His latest project with Art Fix, Mare Con Trampolino, captures a serene, yet surreal seascape that evokes both nostalgia and futuristic wonder.
But why the sea? For Giuseppe, the sublime pull of the ocean is something that is “almost alien; surreal in its beauty” that offers a wellspring of inspiration for artists. Yet, even as a trailblazer himself in digital art, he has reservations about the limits of new technologies like AI overshadowing the creative human touch.
